Allied Cathodic installs, maintains and replaces cathodic protection systems for oilfield well casings and steel flow lines in southeast Saskatchewan and southwest Manitoba. The majority of oil wells and steel flow lines in southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba have cathodic protection systems in place to protect well casings and flow lines from the harmful effects of soil side corrosion. Corrosion rates in the areas that Allied Cathodic operates are accelerated by the fact that the majority of wells are drilled through the Blairmore sand formation. The Blairmore formation is a highly corrosive formation of salt water and sand located approximately 800 - 900 meters deep and with a thickness of 30 - 40 meters. Cathodic protection is a technique used to control the corrosion of metal surfaces by making that surface the cathode of an electromechanical cell. Cathodic protection systems use anodes connected to a direct current power source. The anodes are solid rods of various specialized materials. A typical cathodic protection system for a flow line or well bore would include an alternating current powered rectifier with a direct current output connected by cables to an array of anodes buried in a ground bed.
